Where do you get your medications? (And please reply with your answer and where you are from.)Last edited Tue Jul 31, 2012, 12:46 AM USA/ET - Edit history (1)
Is there a regional preference for a particular word or is it completely interchangeable? (I rarely use the word pharmacy, but I do use pharmacist.)

2. My dear GreenPartyVoter!
|
I get mine from the pharmacy. And I'm in SoCal...
I like being able to call and talk to the pharmacist, who knows me. The staff knows me too, and this is helpful, if there's a problem. I'm not just a voice on the phone, and I like that. I could get them by mail (I think) but I prefer dealing with the local pharmacy. The pharmacy is all over the country (CVS) so I could get my meds in other states if I needed to. Is that what you meant by interchangeable? |

I like that you have a good pharmacy that is easy to work with. I've done ok with mine. Mostly Rite Aid, but I had to switch to Wal-Mart for a while when I had no medical coverage. I felt guilty about that.

You do what you have to do when you have no choice. You do whatever you have to, because your health is more important than where you shop.
We have a Rite Aid here, but my CVS had been open forever before Rite Aid came on the scene... |

Two different locations (I moved almost 3 years ago) and both have been exceptional as far as the people/service/personal attention (they remember me) and willingness/ability to work around my limitations (my previous experiences with two different locations of Walgreen's were nightmares). . All but two of my 8 or 9 daily meds are on their $4 generic list. . . . |

They have one pharmacist, and 3 or 4 teenagers behind the counter.

18. Actually, I try to get them at the drug store but the damn insurance company makes me do mail-order.
|
It's only for the "maintenance drugs" that I have to use mail-order, but it's a royal pain in the ass and more expensive than going to the counter. My newest one was $50/mo at the counter and now the mail-order part says they're going to charge $75. I'm not happy. On top of that, the pharmacy has no way to cross-reference with the mail-order even though they have the same name, so the automatic "conflict" checks I relied on are null and void now. I have to do my own research on-line. They don't all come from the same doctor. I keep a spreadsheet with everything I'm taking, dosages, number of times a day, etc. and always take a fresh copy with me to whatever doctor I have to see.

Hell, I get email REMINDERS when a refill is due.
If my doc prescribes a new/different drug she faxes the request to Humana/RightSource and they fill it. Same when refills have to be renewed. I fax the request to her, she faxes script to them and VIOLA! It's DONE! I do it all by email and fax. Easy Peasy. |

|
It's more expensive, a pain in the ass, takes longer than the counter, and they just leave the shit on the front porch. I hate it (in case you couldn't tell). It saves CIGNA a lot of money but cost me more and takes a shitload more time than going down to the CVS that's a quarter mile from my house. This is NOT a good trend.

Pharmacy if it's the drug store section of a larger grocery or other store (Like Target, Publix, any of the various -Marts, etc...) and drug store for stand alone stores (even though they may sell other things too like Walgreens, Eckerd, CVS, etc...)
I get my drugs at the pharmacy at Publix and I live in Florida. |

It's mostly if you have recurring scripts. If it's a one time script the plan picks it up with a co-pay at the regular pharmacy, however if you go over 3 refills... or a recurring script you have to use the Medco pharmacy via mail or pay full price for the script. I am in los angeles |
