142. WAS THE FIX IN before this? Kerry-Bush vote-switch found in probability study
OHIO 2004: 6.15% Kerry-Bush vote-switch found in probability study
Jan-28-07 DU Discussion: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.ph...

Defining the vote outcome probabilities of wrong-precinct voting has revealed, in a sample of 166,953 votes (1/34th of the Ohio vote), the Kerry-Bush margin changes 6.15% when the population is sorted by probable outcomes of wrong-precinct voting.

The Kerry to Bush 6.15% vote-switch differential is seen when the large sample is sorted by probability a Kerry wrong-precinct vote counts for Bush. When the same large voter sample is sorted by the probability Kerry votes count for third-party candidates, Kerry votes are instead equal in both subsets.

49. The OHIO server could not handle election night traffic. Cronyism at work.
This is a non-story unless some malfeasance is shown. Blackwell gave the job to a politically allied hosting company. That's cronyism.

The posters going off the deep end thinking this altered the election results are missing the story about how the election resutls were actually altered:

OHIO 2004: 6.15% Kerry-Bush vote-switch found in probability study
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.ph...

The election night results reflect the vote-switching. What matters is that votes were switched. Who cares what Internet host posted it online, except those investigating cronyism perhaps.

What matters is votes were switched, and that should be the focus!!!!!!!! JEEEZZZZZ

6. Keep peeling that stinky onion..
The real problem, is that this corruption is SO BIG, that most people cannot get their heads around it..

This is the "beauty" of their whole scam.. Make it HUGE (or should I say HUGH?)..make it so multi-leveled and confusing that the average person just says.."that cannot possibly be true"..and gives up.. and when questioned, they just say.. sounds like conspiracy nuts at it again..

Conspiracies DO exist, and when pros "do it", they can be doozies, and go on forever..

9. Ken Blackwell Outsources Ohio Election Results to GOP Internet Operatives, Again
more at http://scoop.epluribusmedia.org/story/2006/11/7/115314/...

SOS Blackwell also neglected to inform that he outsourced Election Night hosting services to the provider of Internet operations for the Republican National Committee, SMARTech Corp. It's clear that most of the IP address space allocated to Smartechcorp, if it has a domain name, is operated by the RNC or its functionaries and allies.

Is there significance to the fact that election.sos.state.oh.us, on Tuesday night, will correspond to the IP address that lies between Karl Rove's Votervault.com and the National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC)? Just one arrangement of odd bedfellows in that example click the link to IP Block 64.203.98.xxx for other familiar examples such as Becki Donatelli-client, VetsForFreedom.com, or Ken Mehlman's 72hour.org.. They're all hot items right now with each aimed capture the reader's vote.

Attempting to surf to http://election.sos.state.oh.us will redirect the visitor to http://www.sos.state.oh.us . Following Election Results links leads to http://www.sos.state.oh.us/SOS/ElectionsVoter/results20... (not the Election Night Dashboard at time of writing). On Tuesday, Nov. 7, databases of name servers should be refreshed to enable websurfers to clicking 'election.sos.state.oh.us' to arrive at http://64.203.98.137//Results/Dashboard.aspx .

http://www.google.com/search?q=site%3A64.203.98.137 ... Ken, it's harder to make stuff disappear on the internets, not as easy as disappearing $10,000 Diebold lobbyist checks...>

Ken Blackwell outsourced the design of the Election Night Project to Mike Connell who is a GOP operative and the principal of New Media Communications and GovTech Solutions. Their association may go back as far as the George H. W. Bush era. Connell's long-established association in the online political, campaign and fundraising arenas, in addition to his technological expertise, made him a shoe-in for government and non-government services where pay-to-play is the standard..

On April 7, 2000, Blackwell certified the woman-owned (Connell's wife, Heather), small business that Mike Connell spunoff of New Media Communications in order to provide government contracting service a 'non-partisan' face. When Blackwell stamped 'approval' on that incorporation, he'd previously approved the merger of DCI Group and NewMedia Communications.

13. Some relevant stuff at SourceWatch
This entry is about the "Vets for Freedom" website -- apparently a pro-Bush astroturf group -- but in the course of tying the site to the 2004 Bush campaign, the entry offers a fair amount of information about Smartechcorp in general:
http://www.sourcewatch.org/index.php?title=Vets_for_Fre...

The web hosting company for the Vets for Freedom website is SMARTECHCORP.NET, which is the Chattanooga, Tennessee-based SMARTech Corp.

Stacy Cowley of IDG News Service reported October 10, 2004, that net surfers "outside the U.S." who were interested in President George W. Bush's re-election strategy weren't "able to learn about it from his campaign Web site. Visitors from a number of international locations reported hitting 'access denied' errors as they tried to reach the site ... Surfers in the U.S. reported no problems."

Cowley reported that the "U.K. analysis firm Netcraft Ltd. said the Bush site appear to be using network management technology from Akamai Technologies Inc. to restrict access. Netcraft monitors Web site response times from several locations, four in the U.S. and three outside." . . .

On August 22, 2004, SMARTech Corp (smartechcorp.net) announced that it would be "hosting" the Republican National Convention in New York City, providing "convention speeches, video-on-demand 'streams' and live shots of events through powerful Web servers, most of which are at Smartechs headquarters in downtown Chattanooga." The announcement stated that the "company also hosts the Bush-Cheney campaign Web site, at www.georgewbush.com, and the national committees site, www.GOP.com ."

29. Airnet Hosts GOP Internet Sites in 2004
from their website:

Airnet Hosts GOP Internet Sites in 2004
August 22, 2004

Andy Sher Washington Bureau

WASHINGTON - It's more than 700 miles from Madison Square Garden, but that won't stop Chattanooga from "hosting" next week's Republican National Convention in New York City.

Chattanooga based Smartech Corp. is serving as Web host for the convention, bringing the event to computer screens across the globe. The company will provide convention speeches, video-on-demand "streams" and live shots of events through powerful Web servers, most of which are at Smartech's headquarters in downtown Chattanooga.

"The world will view everything from Chattanooga; that's the best way to think about it," said Smartech founder and President Jeff Averbeck. "We'll have one camera (in New York) that looks down from the ceiling on the podium, and then we'll have several others placed around in strategic locations."

He said Smartech will put together a daily montage of video activities for viewing at www.2004nycgop.com . Lee Rainie, executive director of the Pew Internet & American Life Project in Washington, said Smartech's coverage of speeches will be important because television networks have reduced convention coverage from pervious years.

28. Jesus Christ. The evidence is OUT THERE. Waiting...
...for someone, a TRUE AMERICAN, to pick it up and run with it.

We could have these tyrants in orange jumpsuits (provided they wouldn't nuke us rather than go quietly and serve time for their manifest and multiple felonies) in two years if only someone had the GUTS to risk being anthraxed or have a small plane crash or other "mysterious death".

After the Busheviks anthraxed the newspaper that printed pictures of his drunk daughters, assorted Democratic Senators and the "Liberal Media", who has the guts to stand up to them.

It looks like our Dems might be feeling frisky and putting up some resistance, as well as prosecuting this whole Gonzales/Rove crime...but that's along way from saying anyone is investigating & prosecuting felonies in wholesale election fraud, Iraq War lies, theft of trillions, warrantless wiretapping or any of the other hundreds of felonious actions taken by Loyal Bushies.

And if someone did, look out, because 9/11 #2 would then be coming in a short order, mayhaps directed at the Capitol with Congress in session.

God Forbid the Loyal Bushies are that evil, but based on their actions to date, it cannot be reasonably ruled out.

31. Just a detail regarding nameservers...
That's just a database that connects the IP to the domain name -- it *may* or may not have anything to do with where the site is actually hosted.

Although, usually the site is hosted at the same place as the nameserver. But not always.

Consecutive IP addresses almost always mean the sites are hosted by the same company, because they are doled out in blocks. I haven't dug into this story deep enough yet (at work) to see if that's the case here.

With virtual hosts, there's even the possibility of hosting multiple websites with separate domain names on the same IP address. If that's the case, there can be no question that the sites are not only hosted by the same company, but even on the same server.

32. EPISODEFORTYNINE - down the street from Smartech - provided ELECTION RESULTS to RNC

e49 provides election results

Even though we built the original system for the Presidential election back in 2004, this election cycle proved to be challenging. said Ken Smith, managing partner and chief strategist for episode49, LLC. The additional focus placed on the individual races, especially in the House, required a much more detailed breakdown of the raw data we were collecting.

In 2004, the Republican National Committee was in search of a development firm capable of delivering a bullet proof system to track election night results for the Presidential Election. This system would not only need to track results, but also track exit polling and daytime turnouts. Collection of the data would involve many sources, such as the Associated Press, MCI and thousands of wireless applications with the requirement of delivering the tabulated results of millions of records in 15 minute intervals throughout the day. This need began what has become a very successful business relationship between episode49 and The Bivings Group.

The success of the election night tracking system in 2004 opened the door for episode49 and The Bivings Group to build a newer and more detailed application for the 2006 elections. Turnout percentages and voting results were collected from multiple sources with the addition of updating a detailed polling page that served as scorecard for every race. This was an exciting new feature that enabled users to compare polling numbers from up to 5 of the major polling organizations with the latest results as they were updated. Data was further broken down by congressional and even bellwether districts. A bellwether district is one that has been identified as a leading indicator of future trends.

We continue to be privileged to build the primary, first response delivery system of election results to the top Republican Organizations around the country, said Smith, but it couldnt be done without a team that remains un-phased by the pressures of knowing that the White House is watching.

33. question from a nontechnical person
Is there a reason they could control the 2004 election from the White House but not the 2006 one? How come Dems were "allowed" to take the House and Senate?

I wish I could understand what's going on... it sounds so exciting but I don't get it...

as DU'er above my post also suggests.

We also probably won several other states but didn't get the office because the vote switching WAS successful.

This just keeps getting better & better. Or worse and worse, for us! This needs to go to Waxman and Conyers, and it needs to go IMMEDIATELY to forensic computer specialists. We need a search warrant on that server IMMEDIATELY. There is no time to let them finish scrubbing the evidence.

Please!!!! Whoever has connections with Waxman & Conyers, get this info to them NOW!! This ties together the election results, the RNC taking e-mails from white house operatives, AND the attorney purge. It's high time we let the sun shine on this whole houseful of roaches who have taken over the people's house!

If it's NOT connected to the official count, where ARE the numbers coming from?

From the EFF statement: "Rackspace may claim to provide its customers with 'fanatical support,' but in this case it looks like it was more interested in serving the government," added Kevin Bankston, EFF attorney and Equal Justice Works/Bruce J. Ennis Fellow. "Despite these new revelations, a key question remains: Did government agents intentionally mislead the web host into thinking it had to hand over complete copies of the Indymedia servers?"

To summarize the story: when the US government requested the server logs for the grassroots media network IndyMedia from internet service provider RackSpace, RackSpace couldn't find the files. So RackSpace handed over IndyMedia's servers. I wonder how the government agents worked their magic? Did they threaten to declare RackSpace an enemy combatant and lock the whole company up without a trial?

snip...

When Brutus Buckeye clicks on Blackwell's Election Night results link, will he recall that his tax dollars were among hundreds of thousands spent by Blackwell on the consulting firm that created the live election returns system was the very same consulting firm behind Bush-Cheney 2004?! Will anyone recognize that Dashboard clicks will be making a roundtrip through Tennessee when SOS J. Kenneth Blackwell throws the right switch on the Internets?

snip...

When Blackwell stamped 'approval' on that incorporation, he'd previously approved the merger of DCI Group and NewMedia Communications.

http://scoop.epluribusmedia.org/story/2006/11/7/115314/...

NewMedia Communications

On two occasions in recent elections, a third-party source recorded that the Ohio election results website 'election.sos.state.oh.us' was operating at an IP address which falls within the range assigned to service hosted by Chattanooga, TN-based Smartechcorp. The IP address assigned to 'election.sos.state.oh.us', 64.203.98.137, lies between IP addresses assigned to VoterVault.com and NRCC.org which are managed by the RNC and affiliates.

Mike Connell started NewMedia Communications and its 'non-partisan' spinoff GovTech Solutions which provide campaign and technical services to a "Who's Who" list of Republicans.

http://www.newmediacommunications.com/OurPeople.asp

GovTech solutions

snip...

In 2002 and 2004, GovTech received authorization from the General Services Administration that allowed federal agencies to purchase services directly from the company without going through the full bidding process. A news release from the company said, "As a GSA-approved vendor, GovTech can contract directly with agencies to streamline the procurement process."

Between October 2002 and the first half of this year, the General Services Administration reported more than $800,000 paid to GovTech by federal agencies. The company has designed Web sites for the White House, Department of Energy, and the 2004 meeting of the Group of 8 in the former Soviet republic of Georgia, among others.

The GSA Schedule contracts from the federal government can serve as a stamp of approval for state and local government purchasers.

In Ohio, Secretary of State Kenneth Blackwell's office paid about $465,000 to GovTech, which redesigned the Web site and worked with the office to present Election Night results in 2004. In 1999, when Blackwell co-chaired the congressional Census Monitoring Board, New Media had won a contract to redesign a bilingual Web site for the board.

You have it correct. They use a hosting company they trust. Blackwell gave them State of Ohio business. Next step is check to see if there were competitive bids. It seems that after hiring help for the last couple of elections, because Kathy B. didn't think the regular ol' SoS servers could handle it, they reported in real time in 2006 just fine -- no overload. They still sent the results to the mirror RNC server, but they reported them at their own domain also. ePluribus believes it was because of the original article they published. This is where the article was posted which inspired the original post at dKos, and this is the follow-up article after 2006. http://scoop.epluribusmedia.org/story/2006/11/9/61233/1...

they might have been lax in who they allowed to access the results. Because the tabulations went to the SoS's office, and there was an entity very close to the RNC in between the SoS office's actual tabulations and the "official results" published for the public; even if there was no impropriety, it stinks to high heaven.

But we've had that for years. This company was responsible for designing the website on which election results were reported. I'd be more concerned if a Republican crony corp. had a contract to actually count the votes, but that was done by election workers. I tend to think it was just normal Bushco cronyism at work - but like you say, it at least raises a question of impropriety. Blackwell was so corrupt that I wouldn't be surprised by anything he did. I just don't understand enough about network servers to know whether this is actually a bombshell or not.

76. I think a couple of these companies named are the same ones that Carol
Lam was uncovering in her Duke Cunningham and related rePiglican scumbags investigation. I will have to look for links, but someone on DU was posting some research when this first hit about dummy companies being set up for phony DOD contracts, money being skimmed off to RNC and GOP campaigns...sounds like another offshoot of the same basic premise to use taxpayer dollars to fund their own evil global takeover.

They do defense contracting. Their work is done in Steny Hoyer's, a sponser of HAVA, district. If you pull down on the page you'll see a chart of their income from us. It peaks in 2004.

77. Am I right in remembering Blackwell had direct access to the tabulator?
I might be talking out of my ass here, but from what I can remember, Blackwell had direct access to the Diebold tabulator from his office so he could "authorize" the results. That tabulator had links to the machines throughout the state. Updating the election results was live, but I bet the tabulator server and the election results host server are different - one would be Diebold and the other SMARTECH. Running the tabulator on the same host server as the election results would have been too compromising. But, there had to be an ftp (or something) link between the tabulator and the election results host for the updating. That would have been configured either by the tabulator company (Diebold) or the RNC. If badly configured, this could have allowed open access to the tabulator results from anyone with admin access to the RNC owned SMARTECH host. This would have given Blackwell plausible deniability. "Just let our techies configure that uplink there...). If the SMARTECH host server was used in this way, it's illegal because political parties aren't allowed to access raw election data. Only checking the server log would tell whether the election server was used to look at raw tabulator data. Of course, if it was actually used to manipulate data, that would be election fraud. manipulation of election data could easily have been done at the tabulator level or via access to the voting machines. Both are criminal acts. Because the servers were used in an election, they would be auditable material.

It would have needed one man or woman to steal Ohio, together with fudged recounts. That much appears clear. _One_ man or woman.

on election night.

here's a snip:

pisode49 launches a new Election Results Tracking system for 2006

"Even though we built the original system for the Presidential election back in 2004, this election cycle proved to be challenging." said Ken Smith, managing partner and chief strategist for episode49, LLC. "The additional focus placed on the individual races, especially in the House, required a much more detailed breakdown of the raw data we were collecting."

They need to be on GD or GD: Politics to make sure more people can see them. Too many on this board have been complacent since the Dems managed to win ENOUGH of a majority to take stealing the election out of Karl Rove's hands. See post #22 on this thread: He misunderestimated how MANY votes he had to "switch". You can COUNT ON IT that he won't make the same mistake in 2008!!

The electronic vote counting has GOT TO STOP, AND IT'S GOT TO STOP BEFORE 2008!!

We really need to get this information before a congressional committee, while we still have a majority. DUers with connections to the Senate & the House need to start putting together a presentation, and start lobbying for a meeting.

NOW!!!!

131. Agreed loudsue. But isn't proof of mere access by the Smartech sysads enough,
along with the cover-up?

In other words, one can safely presume that a GOP (Smartech) system administrator WILL change votes on a voting system if it's located on the same server as other GOP systems to which that sysad has access. That's a given.

So why isn't it enough proof to show only the mere access (not necessarily alterations to actual data files), along with the cover-up of knowledge of the sysad's access to the voting system, to investigators?

121. Tobacco suit fine dropped from 130mill to 10 bill: Sharon Ubanks resigned
Edited on Thu Mar-22-07 01:36 PM by caligirl
Other moves at DoJ, however, alarm lawyers of all stripes with their partisanship. In 2005, the Department of Justice was about to wind up its big racketeering case against the tobacco industry, which had begun during the Clinton presidency. The lead attorney on it, Sharon Eubanks, says that when John Ashcroft became attorney general, she laid out the options for him: drop the case, or some of the claims, or continue to pursue it. She was told to go ahead. But on the day of her summation at the trial, deputies for Gonzales, who'd since become attorney general, apparently had second thoughts. Over Eubanks' objection, they forced her to cut the government's claim for damages from $130 billion to $10 billion. She saw that as a big fat gift to the tobacco companies, and she subsequently resigned, after 22 years as a DoJ attorney. "The reason they went ahead with the case was that they did not think I was capable of leading a team of 30 to 35 lawyers to victory over 350 lawyers on the other side," Eubanks said when I reached her this week at home. "I'm a small black woman. I'd go over to the main building and I'd say we had a good day, and the political people didn't pay much attention. The moment the relationship changed was before my closing argument, when I went in and said we'd won the case. It was at that point that they came after us."

128. Looking back on the Ohio lockdown
http://www.democracynow.org/article.pl?sid=04/11/10/153...

"In one precinct, 638 people cast ballots. Yet, George W Bush got 4,258 votes to John Kerry's 260. In reality, Bush only received 365 votes. That means Bush got nearly 3,900 extra votes. And that was just in one small precinct. This in a state that Bush officially won by only 136,000 votes. Elections officials blamed electronic voting for the extra Bush votes.

Now, questions are being raised across the state of Ohio. In Cuyahoga County, Ohio, the County's website shows its 29 precincts had more votes than voters. In fact, it wasn't just a handful. It registered a whopping 93,000 more votes than voters. In Fairview Park, twelve miles west of downtown Cleveland, only 13,342 people were registered voters there, but they cast 18,472 votes.

Meanwhile, in Warren County, Ohio election officials took a rather unprecedented action on November 2. They locked down the building where the votes were being tallied, blocking anyone from observing the vote counting process. County officials said they took the action in response to a terror threat warning from the Department of Homeland Security and the FBI. County Commissioner Pat South said they were told by an FBI agent that the county was facing a level 10 security threat on a scale of 1 to 10. George Bush won 72% of the county's more than 92,000 votes."

This from the report linked in the Enquirer....

"Officials at the FBI, which oversees anti-terrorism activities in southern Ohio, said they received no information about a terror threat in Warren County.

"The FBI did not notify anyone in Warren County of any specific terrorist threat to Warren County before Election Day," FBI spokesman Michael Brooks said.

A spokeswoman for Ohio's top homeland security official, Public Safety Director Ken Morckel, knew of no heightened terror warning for either Warren County or any other Greater Cincinnati community on election night."
